Kirsten Hausman, of the Institute for Sustainable Development, says the Green Plus certification helps small businesses to meet a triple bottom line of sustainability, performance and social responsibility.
Piedmont Electric, Chapel Hill Tire Car Care Center, and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce are among nearly thirty organizations nationwide to earn the Green Plus certification.
Hausman says the folks at Chapel Hill Tire in particular are taking sustainability to the next level.

In another first, Piedmont Electric Membership Corporation is the only electric utility to qualify for the certification to date. The not-for-profit, consumer owned cooperative is based in Hillsborough and serves more than 30 thousand customers.”
