Mariah Smith graduated from Johnson C. Smith University in 2007 with her B.A. in English. She went on to teach with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools before deciding to pursue her M.A. in Spanish at Winthrop University. Upon graduating, Mariah taught undergraduate Spanish courses at Winthrop prior to beginning her doctoral program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Currently, she is studying to earn her doctorate in education, specifically in the area of Curriculum & Instruction. Her research interests include curriculum development and teaching world languages for social justice.
