“The Dollars and Sense of Green Business: Chambers of Commerce as the New Champions of a Green Economy”

Partners for Livable Communities has released its second volume of the Economics of Sustainability, “The Dollars and Sense of Green Business,” made possible by support from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. The publication explores sustainability innovation and leadership in 22 chambers of commerce from around the United States. Green Plus partner the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce is recognized for its efforts to harness wind power to generate regional energy independence and to grow a new economic cluster. The Greater Des Moines Partnership, also a Green Plus Partner, is cited in the study for its Brownfield / Grayfield Clean Up tax credit program.

The Institute for Sustainable Development collaborates with Partners for Livable Communities to present the Green Plus Chamber of Commerce Award during its annual Green Plus North American Sustainable Enterprise Awards.

The report by Partners for Livable Communities details thought leadership by regional chambers of commerce to cultivate more sustainable regional economies, educate their members on the importance and practice of environmentally friendly practices, and to set an example through their own behavior.
