From Chapel Hill News: “Last winter, Chapel Hill Tire owner Marc Pons started working on a Green Plus certification for his business offered by the Chapel Hill Carrboro Chamber of Commerce and realized that including solar as part of the Carrboro store’s renovation could help him get his certification. In addition Pons has installed low-flush toilets and reused building materials, and the company now has a written goal to reduce all utility bills at all three of its stores by at least 10 percent. The solar array on the Carrboro store is leading the way, producing, according to Pons, up to 80 percent of peak-power needs on a sunny day. With federal and state tax credits and a premium price paid from Duke Power for the solar electricity, Pons is looking at a five-year system payback according to his installation company, Solar Tech South.” Click here for the full story.
