In April 2010 The Taylor Companies became the first furniture manufacturer member of The Climate Registry. The Climate Registry is a nonprofit organization that operates the only North American voluntary Greenhouse Gas registry. The Climate Registry helps hundreds of public and private organizations measure, report and reduce their carbon emissions with integrity. Taylor’s membership marks a truly historic moment for our Company and the contract furniture industry.
Soon Taylor will report as a voluntary transitional reporter for 2009. All emission reporting will be communicated on a per unit basis. We have currently calculated our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions for every chair and every casegood item that we produce. In conjunction with these calculations, we are finalizing a Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan for our two factories (Bedford, OH and Lynwood, CA). We will use this information to make additional investments and take further measures to reduce our overall carbon footprint over the next 2-3 years. Through this process, we have found new ways to become more energy efficient and to enhance our environmental leadership.
