The Green Plus Chamber Award for Leadership in Sustainable Economic Development
Green Plus Chamber Award for Leadership in Member Sustainability
In collaboration with the American Chamber of Commerce Executives, the Institute offers the Green Plus program to U.S. and Canadian Chambers of Commerce to help them help their members become more competitive through sustainable practices. The Institute for Sustainable Development offers the Green Plus Sustainable Chamber Awards in partnership with Partners for Livable Communities.
“Consuming resources more wisely and reducing waste are not the mantras of environmentalists but are the principles of efficient business – principles that apply to the corporations of Manhattan and the convenience stores of Henderson, Kentucky,” said Bob McNulty, President of Partners for Livable Communities. “Sustainability is the cornerstone to a strong economy and must be applied in all communities, regardless of size, location, or wealth,” McNulty concluded.
2010 winners of the Green Plus Chamber Award included the Syracuse Chamber of Commerce for leadership in sustainable economic development and the Greater Cleveland Partnership / Council of Smaller Enterprises for exceptional leadership in helping its business members improve their sustainability. The Greater St. Louis Chamber of Commerce received special recognition for its role in the Climate Prosperity Project.
“Chambers have a great deal more influence in their communities than they sometimes realize,” said Chris Carmody, Executive Director of the Institute for Sustainable Development. “North American chambers of commerce fill a critical role in promoting solutions to economic prosperity, a healthy environment and social equity that are also business-friendly,” Carmody concluded.
