“The first phase of the program, held last month, saw 54,000 appliances sold to North Carolina consumers, who then claimed $7.8 million of the $8.8 million in federal stimulus funds allotted to pay for the rebates.”

“That leaves the state with just $1 million to hand out this go-round. Rebates will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis starting June 1 and continuing until the money runs out.”

“While the money is limited, the list of products eligible for the rebate has grown to include Energy Star-rated central air conditioning systems, gas furnaces, air-source and ground-source heat pumps, and water heaters (gas storage, gas tankless, solar with electric backup and solar with gas backup).”
