state minimum wage – as of January 1, 2007 the federal minimum wage is $5.15/hr, and is the minimum hourly wage that can be legally paid to an employee by a business in the United States of America. State minimum wages may differ. For example, North Carolina’s miniumum wage is $6.55/hr. Some localities require that employees be paid a living wage.
